San Francisco, Calif., — 2 February, 2012, Aechelon Technology, Inc. announced today that The Boeing Company has awarded it a low rate initial production (LRIPII) contract for image generators and databases. The technology will be used on P-8A Poseidon training devices for the U.S. Navy. Boeing is the program’s prime contractor.
Aechelon Technology supplied its new pC-NOVA™ v5.6 Image Generators for six Operational Flight Trainers (OFT), three sensor Weapons Tactics Trainers (WTT), and one set of Part Task Trainers (PTT). Aechelon Technology will also provide global multi-spectral OTW/EO/IR databases for the tactical environment, 3D moving models, and a variety of airfields.
The OFT Image Generator features FAA Level D quality and the WTT features a Multi-Spectral Sensor System Wescam MX-20HD with High Definition Electro Optical and Infra Red sensor channels.
The P-8A is being developed for the U.S. Navy by a Boeing-led industry team that consists of CFM International, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, GE Aviation, BAE Systems and Spirit AeroSystems. The U.S. Navy plans to purchase 117 P-8As to replace its fleet of P-3C aircraft. Initial operational capability is slated for 2013.
The P-8A, a derivative of the Next-Generation 737-800, is a long-range anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft capable of broad-area, maritime and littoral operations.
