SAN CARLOS, Calif., September 15, 2002 — Aechelon Technology, Inc. announced award of a contract to provide a Litening Pod II advanced targeting pod simulation for the MCAS Yuma and MCAS Cherry Point AV-8B Radar Night Attack Weapon System Trainers. The prime contractor, Indra Sistemas S.A., awarded the subcontract pursuant to US Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWC-TSD) Contract N61339-02-C-0061. The Litening Pod II simulation is based on Aechelon Technology’s pC-NOVATM technology and will be integrated with the SGI Onyx2 InfiniteReality based visual system at the Winter Park facility of Indra Sistemas. Phase 1 delivery is scheduled for October 30, 2002.
The Litening Pod II simulation features Aechelon Technology’s pC-NOVA software-based runtime engine for flight training applications, and C-RADIANTTM plug-in module for geo-specific, multi-sensor image generation support. The simulation includes all the features and functionality of this advanced targeting pod. Aechelon Technology will also provide the pC-NOVA ICD and US East Coast and Southwest databases, which are identical to those implemented in the existing visual systems.
“The ability to simulate this advanced targeting pod will greatly enhance the Fleet’s ability to get up the learning curve as the weapon system is deployed. This is a great addition to theoverall WST capability,” stated Luis Garcia, RNAWST program manager, Indra Sistemas.
“Adding affordable advanced sensor capability to existing trainers is an un-filled niche that is of intense interest to Aechelon Technology, and this first project gives us an opportunity to demonstrate feasibility,” said John Quinn, CEO, Aechelon Technology.
