Aechelon Technology Announces Final Acceptance of Image Generators for Use in MCAS Cherry Point AV-8B Radar Night Attack WST Device 2F150A

SAN CARLOS, Calif., November 30, 2004 — Aechelon Technology, Inc. announced today final acceptance of pC-NOVA‘ (v2.0) image generators for use in MCAS Cherry Point’s AV-8B RNAWST, Device 2F150A. The prime contractor is Indra Systems, USA, pursuant to US Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWC-TSD) Contract N61339-03-C-0160.

One pC-NOVA (v2.0) image generator develops eight channels of OTW/stimulated NVG at 1600 x 1200, and NavFLIR and weapons video; the other pC-NOVA image generator provides the FLIR and CCD channels of the Litening Pod II+ advanced targeting pod videos, with all fields of view, zooming, laser designation and digital stabilization. These image generators have no custom components and feature Aechelon Technology’s pC-NOVA (v2.5) software-based runtime engine for flight training applications and C-RADIANT‘ plug-in module for geo-specific, multi-sensor image generation support and are housed in two 19-inch racks. The Air Force Research Lab’s NVG Sensor Host (v2.0) is fully implemented. All of the Aechelon Technology-specific DBGS software was bundled with the image generator and is fully PSI compliant.

The Aechelon Technology US East Coast database, delivered under this program, has two primary airfields, five secondary airfields and seventeen generic airfields, as well as a high definition target area and four CAL sites located within the 1024km x1024km gaming area. The corresponding materials map and radar database were derived from the visual database multi-spectral imagery. The US Southwest visual database and correlated materials map also were included in the delivery.

This is the fourth set of image generators delivered by Aechelon Technology to Indra Systems for the AV-8B Harrier RNAWST Program and represents the state-of-the-art in high-end visual simulation.

John Quinn, CEO of Aechelon Technology, said, “It is interesting to note that cost, footprint, power
consumption and MTTR have decreased ~75% in five years, while performance and MTBF increased steadily as the transition to commodity-based image generators occurred. Aechelon Technology was an early adopter (in 2000) of shader-based technologies, which has allowed us to ride the phenomenal performance curves in commodity pc components.”

Luis Garcia, Principal Engineer, Indra Systems, Inc. concurred, “The use of purely commodity components to meet the very demanding requirements of this program was just a vision early on in the program, and now we have realized this goal.”
