Aechelon Technology Announces Final Acceptance of Litening II Precision Targeting Pod Simulation

SAN CARLOS, Calif., October 30, 2003 — Aechelon Technology, Inc. today announced final acceptance of LITENING II Precision Targeting Pod simulations in three AV-8B Radar Night Attack Weapons System Trainers, at MCAS Yuma, MCAS Cherry Point, and USNS Rota, Spain, respectively, by prime contractor, Indra Sistemas S.A., pursuant to US Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division Contract N61339-02-C-0061.

Aechelon Technology’s pC-NOVA™ image generator simulates the LITENING II+ Pod’s 3rd generation targeting FLIR and CCD sensors, and is fully correlated with out-the-window, night vision goggles and NavFLIR views rendered by Aechelon Technology’s C-NOVA™ runtime software hosted on previously fielded Silicon Graphics® Onyx2® InfiniteReality3™ workstations in the same training systems. pC-NOVA operates on off-the-shelf commodity PC systems with no custom hardware, under unmodified MS Windows operating systems.

The pC-NOVA image generator, combined with Aechelon Technology’s C-RADIANT™add-in module, supports geospecific, multi-sensor image generation and simulates all of the features and functionality of the advanced targeting pod. pC-NOVA has a host interface identical to the existing C-NOVA visual systems, and renders the same US East Coast and US Southwest databases, simplifying integration of the complex sensor simulation into the trainers.

Luis Garcia, RNAWST Program Manager, stated, “The ability to simulate this advanced targeting pod greatly enhances the Fleet’s ability to get up the learning curve as the weapon system is deployed. This is a great addition to the overall WST capability.”

“Adding affordable advanced sensor capability to existing trainers is an unfilled niche that is of intense interest to Aechelon Technology, and this project gave us an opportunity to demonstrate the feasibility of the approach for this and other weapon systems,” said John Quinn, CEO, Aechelon Technology.
