Aechelon Technology Announces Planned Support For AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processors and Planned 64-Bit Version of the pC-NOVA Image Generation System

SAN CARLOS, Calif. (September 23, 2003) — Aechelon Technology, Inc. announced today that it plans to support the AMD AthlonTM 64TMprocessor, in addition to the currently supported AMD OpteronTM processor, in the AMD64 version of Aechelon Technology’s pC-NOVATM PC based image generation system.

pC-NOVA transforms clusters of high performance commercial-off the shelf (COTS) PC systems into rock-solid 60Hz frame rate, high-resolution, multi-channel geo-specific image generators running unmodified versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system. Aechelon Technology delivers pC-NOVA image generators to DoD and DoD prime contractors as fully integrated systems that include all hardware, including spare nodes, runtime software, database, database generation system (to modify the delivered or create a new database), documentation and integration tools, including interface software for several standard host-side ICDs.

Built on the AMD64 platform, the AMD Athlon 64 processor delivers both enhanced performance and memory bandwidth for existing 32-bit applications, and a migration path to 64-bit computing on the same platform without incurring risk.

An AMD64 version of pC-NOVA is quickly approaching beta stage, providing enhanced performance on AMD Athlon 64 and AMD Opteron processor-based systems by making use of the additional registers available in 64-bit mode, as well as adding support for memory sizes beyond the current 32-bit limit to enable larger databases and more detailed model texturing.

“Having a full family of AMD64 processors that fully utilize 64-bit technology on the Windows platform enables us to leverage AMD64 computing in mobile, desktop and cluster platforms,” said John Quinn, president and CEO of Aechelon Technology. “pC-NOVA, our latest-generation image generation environment, will make extensive use of the AMD Athlon 64 processor’s excellent memory bandwidth and HyperTransportTM technology connectivity, resulting in significant gains in performance. The AMD64 platform-based processors will give our users the capability to render large databases for real time image generation with uncompromised frame rate.”

“With the AMD Athlon 64 processor, Aechelon Technology’s simulation and 3D visualization customers will be able to optimize 32-bit system performance and experience the power of AMD64 computing, with significant reduction in rendering and computing cycles, all on the same platform,” said Tim Wright, director, desktop marketing, AMD’s Computation Products Group. “AMD64 technology will enable AMD and Aechelon Technology’s customers to easily transition from current, 32-bit based platforms to the upcoming 64-bit environment when they’re ready.”
