SAN CARLOS, Calif., November 3, 2005 — Aechelon Technology, Inc. announced today that
it has been awarded an SBIR Phase II contract for New Modeling and Simulation Technology for
Night Vision Goggle Mission Rehearsal. This technology will be developed in collaboration with
NAVAIR-TSD and USMC Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1)
Subject Matter Experts with the objective of providing affordable, transportable Night Vision
Goggle Training for use in the Night Imaging and Threat Evaluation (NITE) Labs.
The contract requires development of NVG Part Task Trainers (PTTs), which will be based strictly
on commodity PC components and achieve performance rivaling that of a full pC-NOVATM (v3.0)
image generator configured for NVG stimulation, such as those delivered on the AV-8B
RNAWST, H-60R TOFT, H-60S TOFT and H-60S WST programs. These PTTs will have no
custom components and feature Aechelon Technology’s pC-NOVA (v3.0) software-based runtime
engine for flight training applications and the C-RADIANTTM plug-in module for geo-specific, multi-
sensor image generation support. The use of commodity PC components in the NVG PTTs will
also serve to minimize cost and the logistics footprint.
An additional objective of this research is to develop a user-friendly method to control the
simulation environment (moon phase/position, clouds, precipitation, etc.), to create and distribute
instructive scenarios, and a means to import scenarios flown on any CIGI-based trainer.
John Quinn, CEO of Aechelon Technology, stated, “We are delighted to have this opportunity to
collaborate with the experts in the Weapons and Tactics area and are looking forward to
developing a world-class NVG training capability for use in the NITE Labs. This is an opportunity
to improve on the best NVG simulation/stimulation available in the market today.”
