PCI Express Multi-GPU Image Generation System Demonstrated in NVIDIA’s Gold Partner Booth at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco California

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., September 7, 2004 — Aechelon Technology, Inc. announced
today its support for the PCI Express™ standard on its pC-NOVA™ v3.0 image
generation system, using the power of two Intel© Xeon© processors, the Intel© E7525
Chipset and NVIDIA© SLI© (Scalable Link Interface) multi-GPU technology to
demonstrate an ultra high-resolution, full mission flight training system with
unprecedented image quality and performance.
The enhanced bandwidth of the PCI Express bus architecture and the Intel E7525
chipset’s unique support for multiple high performance PCI Express slots make it
possible to enable seamless integration of multiple NVIDIA PCI Express Quadro© FX
professional graphics boards through NVIDIA SLI technology, creating the industry’s
first available, truly commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) single chassis multi-GPU
rendering solution. NVIDIA SLI enabled pC-NOVA systems will be demonstrated in the
NVIDIA Booth at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, CA, September 7-9.
NVIDIA SLI technology is a combination of hardware and software that enables the
internal connection of two PCI Express-based NVIDIA GeForce© 6 Series or NVIDIA
Quadro FX graphics boards for full integration of the rendering power of the boards on a
single Intel E7525 chipset-based PCI Express motherboard. Dynamic load balancing, and
advanced rendering and compositing ensure smooth frame rates and outstanding image
quality without requiring an external compositor subsystem or the integration of multiple
video outputs, and without any added latency when compared to a single GPU solution.

Aechelon Technology’s flagship product, pC-NOVA, transforms clusters of high-
performance, commercial off-the-shelf PCs into high-resolution, multi-channel geo-
specific image generators with rock-solid 60Hz frame rate, running unmodified
Microsoft™ Windows© 2000 and XP operating systems. The C-RADIANT© plug-in
module for pC-NOVA provides geospecific, multi-sensor image generation support,
enables accurate physics based sensor simulation without requiring any additional custom
hardware. pC-NOVA makes extensive use of NVIDIA’s vertex and pixel shader
technology, and includes a pipelined rendering architecture that leverages the power of
multiprocessor systems based on Intel Xeon processors, including enhanced
asynchronous I/O performance enabled by Intel’s Hyper-Threading Technology.

“The PCI Express bus architecture’s enhanced bandwidth and multiple adapter support,
together with NVIDIA’s SLI technology allow us to deliver a level of training fidelity
that was not feasible with single graphics card systems,” said John Quinn, president and
CEO of Aechelon Technology. “Enhanced display resolution and image quality,
improved anti-aliasing and scene content enhance the pilot’s training experience and
make the mission safer and more effective. PCI Express and SLI allow us to significantly
increase the fidelity of our training systems”
“The performance of Aechelon Technology’s pC-NOVA image generation system nearly
doubled with NVIDIA’s innovative multi-GPU technology, enabling new levels of digital
image clarity,” said Dan Vivoli, executive vice president of marketing at NVIDIA. “The
PCI Express I/O interconnect significantly increases available bandwidth and NVIDIA
SLI technology utilizes the extra fill rate to drive higher polygon counts and max-out the
image quality settings, creating a photorealistic terrain.”
“The latest Intel Xeon processor-based platforms bring powerful technologies such as PCI Express and DDR2 memory to market,” said Melissa Laird, general manager of the Solutions Enabling Division at Intel. “Aechelon Technology’s image generation system takes advantage of the breakthrough innovations of this new Intel Xeon processor-based platform, providing customers with enhanced performance, reliability, memory and graphics capabilities for their business needs.”
